The northern islands of the Lesser AntillesLocated east of Puerto Rico, this wonderful archipelago is in the north-eastern part of the Caribbean. The Virgin Islands are divided in few groups:
- US Virgin Islands comprehend Saint Thomas, Saint John and Saint Croix. The capital is Charlotte Amelie, on the island of Saint Thomas. It's also one of the main port of arrival for cruises in the whole Caribbean. Saint John is a smaller islet, very close to St. Thomas and it can be visited with a short ferry trip, departing directly from Charlotte Amelie. Saint Croix has instead its port, as well visited by different cruise companies. Even though the traffic is not as busy as in St. Thomas.
- British Virgin Islands are a British Overseas Territory consisting of more than 50 islands. However only Tortola is a cruise ship destination.
- Spanish Virgin Islands are just few islands on the east side of Puerto Rico, but cruise ships are not going there.
