Santorini is one of the islands that are part of the Cyclades archipelago. Located about 200km from mainland Greece, Santorini is one of the largest islands in the area and arguably the most beautiful as well. Its territory is closely linked to the volcanic activity that in the past characterized its geology and in fact it is famous for its cliffs overlooking the sea, for its red beaches and for the Cycladic architecture with white houses that contrast with the blue sky and aegean sea. The romantic soul of Santorini makes it a place visited for its naturalistic and architectural beauties rather than for the social life, even if present on the island but in a much more relaxed and hectic way than in Mykonos. Island of luxury and shopping that has however lost its simplicity over the years. The camera is always at hand because every moment will be good to stop time on an island that is a portion of paradise on earth.

What to see & what to do

Beaches

Kamari Beach

Kamari Beach is absolutely the most visited beach on the island. A short distance from the Old Thira excavations, it is famous for its black sand. Its promenade full of shops and restaurants makes it particularly attractive for families.

Oia

Oia is probably the most beautiful village on the island. A place that has kept far from mass tourism and, even if we find restaurants, shops and night clubs, has managed to keep its charm intact. A postcard landscape with a view of the caldera that takes your breath away. Of particular interest is the Panagia church in Platsani, a reconstruction of an ancient Orthodox church that was located inside the Oia castle destroyed by an earthquake in the mid-1950s and the small beach of Ammoudi, made of stones instead of sand. The beach is particularly popular for its beautiful backdrops and crystal clear water which makes it perfect for snorkeling.

Red Beach

One of the most beautiful and crowded beaches, especially during the summer, is Red Beach, located about 10 km away from the port. The beach, which is characterized precisely for its cliffs characteristic rust color, is small but equipped. spectacular destination for snorkeling and families.

Park & Landmarks

Caldera Boat Trip

Directly from the port of Thira you can take part in a popular excursion to the island of Santorini, which is one end of a sunken volcanic caldera, which also includes other small islands. Therasia, Aspronisi, Kameni, Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni are the other emerged lands that are part of the ancient caldera. A nice boat trip will take you to visit them and admire them in a much more specific way.

Firostefani

Firostefani is a place that is now part of the town of Thira, but has very particular characteristics that make it a very nice place to visit. It is nicknamed the "roof of the island" for its panoramic position. Very interesting to visit is the Church of the Virgin of Agios Theodoris.

Imerovigli

Imerovigli is a small village about 3 km from Thira also known as "the balcony on the Aegean" due to the position in which it stands, right above the caldera. The white houses, in perfect Cilcadian style, are arranged like an amphitheater and crossed by small paved alleys. Of remarkable interest the Rock of Skaros and the Monastery of Saint Nikolas.

Oia is probably the most beautiful village on the island. A place that has kept far from mass tourism and, even if we find restaurants, shops and night clubs, has managed to keep its charm intact. History & Culture

Archaeolocial Site of Ancient Thira

The archaeological site of ancient Thira is perched at almost 400m above sea level on top of the Kameni. It develops along a main road, crossed by secondary roads, which ends in 2 agora where you can admire the remains of ancient Greek temples. The Terrazza delle Feste is also beautiful, a place where in ancient times people celebrated in the name of the God Apollo.

Archaeological Site of Akrotiri

In the southwestern part of the island of Santorini stands the archaeological site of Akrotiri. In the '60s it was discovered the remains of an ancient settlement, destroyed by the eruption of the volcano. Today the archaeological excavations are well preserved and tell of a rich and highly developed civilization. As has happened in Pompeii, it is due to the volcano ashes if they come down to us not only buildings, but also frescoes, pottery and other precious artifacts.

Thira

Thira, the capital of the island of Santorini, is generally the first place to visit as it is the gateway for tourists. The town is located about 260 meters above sea level. The short journey that separates it from the port is usually covered on foot or by donkey, a method used especially by families with children. Alternatively there is also a cable car. In summer it is one of the busiest places in Santorini with tourists who flock to the small streets of the center between shops, ice cream parlors, restaurants and night clubs. Of great interest in Thira is the Prehistoric Museum which preserves objects of everyday life and the remains of the fresco of the Blue Monkeys. In Thira there is also the Orthodox church of Agios Minas, recognizable thanks to its blue dome that stands out on the buildings that surround.
