Lisbon is the beautiful capital of Portugal and one of the most charismatic and vibrant cities in Europe. It is characterized by the mixture of an ancient cultural heritage, a strong modernist trend and progressive thinking.

An ancient city with a myriad of stories to tell.

Lisbon is a popular city, indolent and melancholy, like all great seaside town, especially those who are a bit ‘more to the south. And so are its inhabitants whose character we understand sooner and better listening to Fado, the songs we sang Portuguese sailors on the ships with which to set off to conquer the world.

Lisbon is a lively and exciting city, boasting an array of fascinating attractions. The atmosphere that you breathe, while embracing the historical and cultural heritage of a still well rooted past, is welcoming and open.

What to see & what to do

Park & Landmarks

Sintra

Sintra is a beautiful Portuguese town that hosts a varied amount of attractions and places to visit. A little over half an hour's drive from the Cruise Terminal you will be transported to a location where romantic architecture stands out above all the rest. Beautiful palaces and ancient castles perfectly frame the forested hills of the Serra de Sintra National Park. One of the main attractions is undoubtedly the Quinta da Regaleira, a 19th century Gothic residence surrounded by one of the most elaborate gardens in Sintra. Inside, various architectural works, such as The Initiation Well or The Inverted Tower, will allow you to appreciate the eccentricity of the owner who had it built.

The Baixa District

The Baixa district is the heart of the city, part of Lisbon that starts from the banks of the Tagus and reaches Avenida da Liberada. This area was completely destroyed by the terrible earthquake of 1755, only to be rebuilt in an impeccable way: Baixa is not only the symbol of hope and a reconstruction done in a precise and accurate, but it is also a wonderful example of neoclassical architecture.

The Miradouro de Santa Luzia

The Miradouro de Santa Luzia is a natural panoramic terrace overlooking the city and is located just below the Castle de Sao Jorge. And 'the ideal place to take the best panoramic pictures of Lisbon. Behind the scene, on the facade of the Church of Santa Luzia, there are two beautiful mosaics with tiles (ceramic tile): one depicting the Terreiro do Paco (present Praça do Comércio) before the 1755 earthquake and the other the crusaders to the Lisbon reconquest.

Animal Encounter

Oceanarium

A must-see attraction of the city of Lisbon is certainly the Oceanarium. It has about 8,000 species of animals and marine plants such as bull sharks, penguins, seahorses, but also coral reefs and rainforests. The aquarium is located inside the Park of Nations (Parque das Nações), residential area of the city. To size the Oceanário de Lisboa is second only to the Aquarium of Valencia. The central basin is home to species living in the oceans and along the other side tanks brings together in a single environment ecosystems of all the world's oceans.

History & Culture

Barrio Alto

For many centuries, the Bairro Alto is the neighborhood of wealthy families: the rich people lived in this area of Lisbon carefully avoiding the most disreputable places of the city. From 1800 onwards things changed and Bairro Alto acquired a dual personality that even now characterizes it: on one hand the aristocratic families and other creative people, the poor artists, bookstores, restaurants and antique dealers. The Bairro Alto is characterized by being the youth and entertainment district

Castle of Sao Jorge

If you want to embrace in a single glance the whole Lisbon, the best way is to climb to the Castle of Sao Jorge (St. George) and look at the various views that open onto the city. The castle from the periscope of the castle. All peoples who have conquered and ruled Lisbon have settled here to make a self-sufficient castle citadel. In 1940 it was completely renovated and transformed into an area with gardens, parks, viewpoints and exhibition areas, perfect for enjoying Lisbon but also take a little 'cool off during the warmer months.

Elevador de Santa Justa

The Elevador de Santa Justa is a spectacular neo-Gothic iron structure built in the late 800 by an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel. High 32 meters with two beautiful wooden cabins, leading from the Baixa to the church of Carmo, where they can enjoy a beautiful view over Lisbon.

The Alfama district

The Alfama district must be experienced on foot, wandering through the streets even just 4 meters wide where the authentic atmosphere that you breathe will take you back to the time when you were kids. Clothes hanging on the balconies, the cars scattered a bit everywhere in a disorderly manner will have an intense flavor of naturalness. Get on a tram, stick your head out and breathe the Alfama in its climbs and descents and let all its beauty flow before your eyes.

The Belem District

The Belem district is definitely another area you must visit when you arrive in Lisbon port. Located directly on the banks of the Tagus, it was the place where all the Portuguese ships departed in search of treasures and new horizons to conquer. The Belem Tower is the monument that stands out above all the rest, originally built to be the Lighthouse and the Fortress of the port of Restelo, built in that highly decorated Gothic architectural style that takes the name of Manuelino.

The Chiado district

The Chiado is one of the most traditional and characteristic district of the city of Lisbon. It is located between the Bairro Alto and Baixa and develops around its main square, the Largo do Chiado which now houses many fine shops, but also libraries and theaters. Here we find the historic and famous café "A Brasileira", one of the busiest city venues. In the district there is a bronze statue dedicated to Pessao poet sitting at cafeteria table.

Walking

Shopping in Lisbon

The main shopping area in Lisbon is the Baixa district, where you can find a lot of shops as well as typical bars and restaurants. The Barrio Alto, on the other hand, is divided between an area where you can buy mostly vintage clothes and design objects, and another where you can find luxury products in the boutiques of international designers.

| DON’T CARE ✌🏻🖤

Pursuing your own passions can seem a lonely road in the short run, carries the risk of alienating those you love, but in the long run you gotta do what you love, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind 🌊🌏☀️

| CHANGE YOUR LIFE 👊🏻

Weather

Dry season

Dry season

From December to April, mostly sunny and fresh. The best period to sail in Caribbean. Having a flat territory and being exposed to the trade winds, Aruba is always windy and with comfortable temperatures.

87°F 70°F

Wet season

Wet season

From May to November, warmer season with more frequent rains. From July till September Hurricanes are not usually a problem for Aruba, which remain out of their track.

90°F 77°F

Good to know

  1. Clothing Casual summer wear can be worn during the day any time of the year; but be sure to bring a jacket or sweater for cooler evenings from December to March.
  2. Water Shoes Bring them if you go to swim or snorkel. Some of the water can be rocky after you walk from the beach.
  3. Sundries For convenience and cost concerns, bring your own everyday health and beauty products with you.
  4. Port Regulation Be aware that often in port it's forbidden to take off the ship fruits, vegetables and unsealed food items for local agricolture concern.
  5. Currency The official currency is the Mexican Peso, but the U.S. dollar is widely accepted throughout the island.
  6. Credit Card concern Pay attention using credit cards in Cozumel. Here several episodes of cloning happened. Use cash as much as possible.
  7. Time Zone EST (Eastern Standard Time) UTC/GMT -5 hours. No DST changes during the year. Make sure to keep the ship's time on your clock to come back board on time. Be aware of automatic changes of your smartphones.

Terminal

The Port of Lisbon has all the 5 landing places for cruise ships: Santa Apolonia Santa Apolonia Jusante, Alcantara, Rocha Conde d’Obidos (aka “da Rocha”) and the new pier Jardim do Tabaco. Alcantara and Rocha are located near the Ponte 25 de Abril (town famous attraction). In the Praca do Comercio square is the Tourist Office of Lisbon, where you can get a free map of the city tour.

Remind

Transport

Urban transport in the city of Lisbon is mainly public transport such as the tram, the funicular or the very particular Elevador de Santa Justa, considered a real urban transport as it allows you to reach the Carmo Church from the Baixa in a few seconds.
