What to see & what to do

Park & Landmarks

Barceloneta

Until the mid-eighteenth century the Barceloneta was an uninhabited area, but due to its proximity to the sea, fishermen were the first to settle in this part of town. Since then, the district has not changed because it continues to be inhabited by humble people, although the houses have turned slightly, as well as the district as a whole, now rich with restaurants, shops and small bars. Barceloneta today is a cosmopolitan place that, in summer, reaches its highest expression: the beach in fact, is one of both day and most animated of the city is at night, when you open the kiosks and bars offering live music.

Parc Guell

A place of honor among the attractions that can be visited in Barcelona certainly goes to Parc Guell. Less than 3 km from the Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984, Parc Guell was originally supposed to be a residential area, but fortunately then it became a city park built by the skilful and imaginative hands of Antoni Gaudi who poured into the work all his colorful creativity. A place where you can get lost and admire in fascination the beautiful entrance staircase and the Hipostila Room and last but not least another place where the quantity of photos taken is impressive, the Banc de Trencadis, a marvelous fully tiled perimeter bench.

History & Culture

Barcelona Cathedral

The Cathedral is the symbol of the Diocese of Barcelona as well as the highest expression of the Gothic Catalan. It stands on the site where it was founded a basilica destroyed by the Muslims. Barcelona Cathedral has simple lines, typical of the Catalan Gothic. Inside, note, above the altar, the crucifix of the fifteenth century who according to tradition was hoisted on the ship of John of Austria as a banner at the Battle of Lepanto against the Turks in 1571.

Barrio Gotico

Libraries and antique dealers, bars and restaurants, populate the streets of this neighborhood before Roman and then greek, always the center of Barcelona life. As a little raised above the neighborhood we find the Cathedral of Barcelona, dedicated to Santa Eulalia. To discover the Gothic Quarter is not a recommended route: better to wander a bit 'through the streets, not to mention Placa Reial and Carrer Montcada, home to the Picasso Museum.

Picasso Museum

The Picasso Museum is the reference center for knowledge of these years of Pablo Picasso training. Through more than 3,500 works that make up the permanent collection reveals the genius of the young artist. But the Picasso Museum is also a declaration of his tie with Barcelona. A narrow and inseparable bond that began in his teens, and that despite the farewell, lasted until his death.

The Liceu Theatre

The Liceu, in fact, is the most important theater of Catalonia and one of the most famous in the world. It 'a real cultural institution to which the people of Barcelona are very attached: some will remember the fire that destroyed it in 1994. It' been rebuilt more beautiful than before, and it's well worth a visit both admiring some work, and when the theater is empty. You can visit the Hall, the Hall dels Miralls and Foyer.

The Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is truly an extraordinary work, one of the things you must do in the Catalan capital. It is important that it is unfinished but it is amazing what is already there. On the facades it tells the story of Jesus, from birth until death. Inside there is the heavenly Jerusalem, inhabited by the Lamb, the son of God who has finished his earthly suffering and lives in Paradise, finally rescued. The Sagrada Familia is a huge Christian symbol, a kind of Bible story stone.

La Rambla

La Rambla in Barcelona is the long drive from Plaza de Catalunya leads to the foot of the statue of Columbus, a few meters from the sea. La Rambla is the first thing everyone wants to see just stepped in Barcelona. Here we are crowded day and night, and tourists of Barcelona, street artists in search of fortune and thieves in search of victims. You can visit the Ramblas starting from the sea, passing under the Mirador of Columbus, or from Placa de Catalunya.

Mirador de Colombus

Welcome to the Mirador of Colombus, the immense column with the statue of Christopher Columbus who is at the end of the Rambla. From 60 meters in height Colombo indicates with his finger towards America, the discovery that made him immortal. From the top you can admire not only the Rambla but the Gothic Quarter and Santa Maria del Mar.

Parc Guell

Te pido mucho? Tal vez.

Dry season

Dry season

From December to April, mostly sunny and fresh. The best period to sail in Caribbean. Having a flat territory and being exposed to the trade winds, Aruba is always windy and with comfortable temperatures.

87°F 70°F

Wet season

Wet season

From May to November, warmer season with more frequent rains. From July till September Hurricanes are not usually a problem for Aruba, which remain out of their track.

Good to know

  1. Clothing Casual summer wear can be worn during the day any time of the year; but be sure to bring a jacket or sweater for cooler evenings from December to March.
  2. Water Shoes Bring them if you go to swim or snorkel. Some of the water can be rocky after you walk from the beach.
  3. Sundries For convenience and cost concerns, bring your own everyday health and beauty products with you.
  4. Port Regulation Be aware that often in port it's forbidden to take off the ship fruits, vegetables and unsealed food items for local agricolture concern.
  5. Currency The official currency is the Mexican Peso, but the U.S. dollar is widely accepted throughout the island.
  6. Credit Card concern Pay attention using credit cards in Cozumel. Here several episodes of cloning happened. Use cash as much as possible.
  7. Time Zone EST (Eastern Standard Time) UTC/GMT -5 hours. No DST changes during the year. Make sure to keep the ship's time on your clock to come back board on time. Be aware of automatic changes of your smartphones.

Terminal

There are 9 terminals in total at the port of Barcelona, 7 of which are cruise terminal. They can be categorized roughly into three main positions.

Adossat Quay terminal
Terminals A, B, C and D are found to Adossat Quay and are furthest away from the city center. The terminal D is also called Palacruceros.

Terminal World Trade Center

At the pier World Trade Center (WTC) there are 3 terminal called North, South and East.

Remind

There is a stop for the tourist bus hop on hop off near the World Trade Center. This might be a good option if you want to start exploring the city right away, because the World Trade Center is located right in the middle of the cruise terminal and is easily accessible on foot after boarding.

Maremagnum Port Vell

There is a small terminal at Port Vell Maremagnum, although it is generally used for larger vessels and not for the cruise ships.

The ports are at the foot of La Rambla (the most famous avenue in Barcelona, often called Las Ramblas), which runs through the city center.

Transport

Barcelona is a really big city but it can be explored easily on foot and by public transport, without the need to rent any vehicle. The bus and metro network take you wherever you want to go and also in a very economical way.
