Melissani Cave

A thirty kilometers from Argostoli, the Cave of Melissani is a wonder of nature must visit. Discovered in 1951, this cave has an underground lake, half salt and half sweet, because of an underground spring that mixes with sea water, as well as a number of stalactites and stalagmites. The tourist appeal dell'anfratto began, however, after the earthquake of 1953. The earthquake, in fact, he caused the collapse of the overlying turn, allowing sunlight to enter into the cavity creating spectacular reflections blue and turquoise. During the summer months you can visit the cave through guided boat tours that leave from Sami town.
