Arrecife, the capital of the island of Lanzarote, has enjoyed this recognition for a relatively short time, to be exact since 1852, when it was decided, given the commercial importance that was growing dramatically in recent years, to pass the scepter from the old capital, Teguise. Arrecife is now home to almost half of the inhabitants of the whole island and that is why it boasts most of the commercial and social life. The city center is a very picturesque place, boasting an important historical heritage, various parks and a breathtaking promenade. A large number of shops and places to shop are concentrated in its streets. It is also the city that hosts the tourist port where the numerous cruise ships that pass by these parts dock.
